Strange But Surf has been an established surf-rock band on Long Island since 2003. They play at venues across New York and appear regularly at Otto’s Shrunken Head - a renowned surf & tiki club in NYC.
On January 30, 2015 at The Space in Westbury, NY - Strange But Surf opened for the world’s greatest party band - The B-52s!
That was an incredible night - but was topped the following night, when they opened for them again at the legendary Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY.
Just some of the of incredible musicians that have graced that stage, include The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan.
They have released 2 albums, “Making Treble” and “Swimming in Reverb”, and appear on the surf compilation CD “Off the Deep End” by Deep Eddy Records. These talented musicians make every gig an event, surprising their fans with a constantly inventive and evolving repertoire.

In the 80’s he started to study guitar and learned the styles of blues masters like BB, Albert & Freddy King and Mike Bloomfield. In addition to his musical interests, Barry has been an Art Director for "National Lampoon", "Relix" and "Trump Magazine".

A traumatic experience during a kindergarten recital led to him playing trumpet, as his father and grandfather had before him. He started on drums at age 16, guitar at age 18, and bass at age 20. A former member of The Blackouts and The Outcasts in the early 1990s, Joel jammed with Danny Kalb of the Blues Project and played such famous haunts as the Greenhouse Café, Lauterbachs, and the Red Lion.
